I started out wanting to be a writer, or a cowboy. I grew up in Pennsylvania on a horse farm, and eventually I got a bachelor's in English from Colorado State University, and then taught English as a Second Language. I taught in Asia for about 10 years, in South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, China, and Japan.
After the tsunami in 2011 I decided to do counseling. I went to Pacifica Graduate Institute in Southern California, and took a Masters in Depth Psychology.
I started working as a therapist in New Mexico as my family had lived in New Mexico for about the last 30 years or so. I worked in methadone clinics, inpatient clinics, intensive outpatient clinics, and family community centers.
I offer solution-based approaches, REBT (Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy), meditation/mindfulness, neuropsychology, and depth psychological tenets, including Jungian concepts and other time-tested modalities. I have experience working with clients who suffer from addiction, anxiety, depression, trauma, dissociative disorders, and other challenging diagnoses.
Since covid, I've been working remotely, traveling to different and amazing cultural spots and beaches around the world. Eventually, I hope to have an equine therapy program in New Mexico, and some alternative programs for homeless people.
Are you struggling to find peace in your daily life or feeling overwhelmed by life's current stressors? Or maybe you're finding it difficult to heal from pain or trauma. Do you have an idea of what you want your life to look like but can't quite find the path to get there? Is anxiety getting in the way of your pursuing your dreams?
I can help you identify the roadblocks that are getting in the way of you creating the life that you desire. My experience ranges from working with families of developmentally delayed children, teenagers, adults who are recovering from substance abuse, adults with anxiety depression, PTSD and ADHD.
I would love to support you on your journey to health and wellness.
I have worked in the mental health field for over twenty years, and am a designated supervisor in the state of New Mexico.
I became a therapist because of what I went through in my own childhood. Navigating trauma without a trusted guide left me longing for someone who could hold space for my pain, help me feel safe, and remind me I wasn’t alone. Now, I strive to be that person for the child I was, and for others who need someone they can trust.
My approach is rooted in trauma-informed, strengths-based care, with a deep respect for each client’s story and resilience. I hold a Master’s in Psychology with an emphasis in Human Factors, and I’m currently pursuing a Master’s in Social Work to expand my clinical and systems-level impact. I offer telehealth therapy to New Mexico residents through Dream Life Counseling, LLC, with a focus on culturally responsive support for those navigating anxiety, trauma, and life transitions.
I’m guided by the words of trauma expert Bessel van der Kolk: “Being able to feel safe with other people is probably the single most important aspect of mental health.” Creating that sense of safety is at the heart of my work, because healing begins in relationships.
Outside of therapy, I’m a wife and mom in a sports-loving family. We enjoy cheering at baseball games, whether it’s a professional matchup or a travel ball tournament and spending time at gymnastics meets. These moments remind me of the importance of connection, play, and showing up for the people we love.
If you’re looking for a therapist who brings compassion, authenticity, and a deep understanding of trauma, I’d be honored to walk alongside you.
It was the psychological theorist Carl Jung who once professed, “The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.” I have always been intrigued by the mind, brain, and human behavior, as well as by the ways that culture, environment, spirituality, and experiences shape the human psyche. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Arizona (graduated in 2003) and have worked with BIPOC communities for most of my career. As a first-year Master of Social Work student at New Mexico Highlands University, with a Clinical Concentration, I take a strength-based, person-centered, trauma-informed approach to motivating all who are living with severe mental illness and chronic disease(s) through policy-informed training, psychoeducation, and by acting on behalf of marginalized groups, including LGBTQIA+, the physically disabled, justice-involved, and those living with persistent and active addictions.
I am well-versed in Social Security claims as a local certified SOAR Leader and can help one navigate the stress and barriers associated with benefits, poverty, and homelessness. I have over 15 years of case management and care coordination experience in helping others find proper, continued care and treatment when necessary. Some of the conditions that I can help people with are ADHD, Anger Management, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Cancer, Depression, Dual Diagnosis, Life Coaching, Racial Identity, Self-harming, Stress, Suicidal Ideation, Trauma and PTSD, Veterans, Gay and Two-Spirit Issues.
I follow the harm reduction philosophy and support alternative methods to alleviate suffering from trauma, abuse, and addiction. I revel in helping others explore helpful and unhelpful thoughts and behaviors and how that leads to one’s self-determination. I am a strong advocate for mental health services in our Indigenous communities, as my lived experience, culture, and upbringing as a tribal member inform my clinical social work. My heritage as a two-spirit person gives me an alternative perspective on how to accept and learn from my relatives from all other walks of life, especially transgender, lesbian, gay, bisexual, asexual, and other gender identities and sexual orientations. I follow my people’s life philosophy to “walk in beauty” and ask that if you are looking to return to making a journey to find your authentic self, then join me in taking that first step in building your resilience to cope with today’s stressful situations and restore that kinship worldview, making one feel less disconnected.
I like to meet with clients outdoors if requested to go on walks, hiking, bird watching, rock collecting, or any other activity to reconnect clients to nature, our first teacher. I also make house calls and telehealth for those without transportation and/or who are mobility challenged with physical or mental disabilities within the Albuquerque Metropolitan area, including the surrounding Laguna, Sandia, and Santa Ana Pueblos.
After I graduate, I plan to organize with the community to address how social work practices can work to heal the community at the macro level. In the future, I also plan to complete psychedelic-assisted treatment certification to help those who suffer from treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, and complex PTSD. Please, stay tuned.
